To ensure compatibility with third party compatible consumables, it is essential to disable Automatic Firmware Updates before your printer updates.
Turn off Epson Automatic Firmware Updates during initial machine setup to avoid updated firmware locking out non epson (Compatible) consumables for the life of the printer.
Via the Printer: Settings > Firmware Update > Notification > Off
