LC436 and LC436XL cartridges contain authentication chips with unique serial numbers, a security measure by Brother to ensure the use of genuine products. Reusing the same serial number too soon may cause errors and prevent the cartridge from working.
New users: If you’ve only used genuine Brother cartridges before, there won’t be any issues when first using a non-Brother cartridge.
Tracking serial numbers: Check the box or cartridge itself to track serial numbers for compatible cartridges.
For example, If your printer already has compatible cartridges A1N2 and you install new ones also labeled A1N2, the printer will reject them. However, if the new cartridges are labeled A1N3, they will work. After using A1N3, you can use new cartridges labeled A1N2 due to the printer's interval memory.
